When you compare the top mainland photographers, there’s a really different strategy and an entirely different behind the scenes. A number of the top photographers in advertising and fashion who travel the world with publications shoots, for marketing campaigns have a good sized entourage who put almost everything up for them. I have worked for many top photographers years back that are well known for their style and commercial image. Many times the photographer would approach us show us a magazine clipping they enjoy and let’s to copy the lighting and style with props etc..
We would then set up all the lights and the whole set and do a little polaroid test shoots and have it all ready for the model or celebrity to join the stage. The photographer would only show up and click away, occasionally we would click for him or her because they directed the photo-shoot to obtain the ideal look and feel they had been trying for. The direction or words you say to the client for any photography shoot on Maui or any place in the world, the most important skill to have is people skills, what to say, the way to react, what mood or comedy to throw in your clients to place the scene.
Many Maui photographers will probably be so eager to shoot an 85 mm lens at 1.4 and believe they are on top of the planet for shooting a cool picture using bokeh blurred background. I also adore this kind of Bokeh appearance, but we can not always take with this type of broad open shooting, as some customers wish to find out what the background looks like because they paid to be in Hawaii to find the stunning beaches and landscapes with stunning blue waters and magnificent sunsets. Each week Hawaii creates new photographers that spring up with a new site with their proud new amateur / Professional camera gear they bought from Costco and they really get clients and they grow and grow into a busy professional photographer. Oahu
We’ve got each started from nothing and when you finally make it like a professional photographer on Maui But to remain at the peak of your match we must keep up with the rest of the planet and see what others do. We find the majority of our Lahaina family photographers from magazines that have been in existence since the early 1900s and we find excellent inspiration from classic films with the stunning lighting shot in the timeless tungsten style. I don’t actually use social media like Instagram because it is full of fake likes and imitation followers, and that I really don’t like places that judge you on the amount of followers or enjoys you’ve. In Instagram, everyone seems to want to display their butt or abs to gain attention. Tons of Crazy influencers who have paid a fortune for getting zero ability and it’s really sickening to see it.
We’ve got a lot to learn from the great masters of photography only because they paved the way with their craft and used simple cameras such as the Leica M or some other excellent movie cameras from Hasselblad and the older Nikon and cannon cameras using great quality movie that is difficult to find and develop these days.
Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Hurrell, Robert Frank, we owe a lot to these fantastic masters who have shown us a great deal about art in photography.
We learn a lot about an image by spending some time to it and studying all the facts and feel what the story of this picture is telling us. While I see how fast men and women scroll through their Instagram account and pay little respect to photography or art, I worry what the thoughts of human will probably be like 100 years from today. Scrolling through images at spin rates and overlooking lots of important details in photography, particularly the basic details of a picture we frequently overlook. Enjoy and respect the extraordinary in the ordinary and the Exact Same goes for the Ordinary in the extraordinary.
Google rules the world these days and we all rely on Google to get our workout. Google will make us brake us with good and bad reviews. We all need good reviews of course but the moment a tiny mistake occurs, people really like to endanger you with bad reviews that are always completely unfair and Google does not do much for unfair complaints. Individuals now understand they could try to get their cash back by threatening to provide a bad review. The terrible review may be as simple as”The wind blew hair in my face” and”you did not inform me or my bra strap is showing in some of the pictures” or”my baby wasn’t looking at the camera on all the shots”.
All photographers understand of these issues we all see and possess but we must continue on with a positive aloha smile and keep the customers contented and satisfied as they keep coming back and they refer others. Our customers have been referred to by hundreds of other clients over the years. We photographed one couple about 7 decades back and happily her friends all from the same temple all refer each other, year after year, so it seems as though we have photographed the entire Jewish community in New York. Thank you, customers, for all those referrals and amazing five-star testimonials, we value your business over the years with great respect and pride.
